Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join and become a member?

If you register for and attend a FAST conference, you are considered a member, without any additional fee. Your membership is renewed annually by your participation in each year’s conference.

This is in keeping with the mission of the FAST Board, to promote and offer affordable CEU opportunities for our sleep professionals in Florida.

I am relocating to Florida. How do I obtain a license?

There is currently no state licensure requirement in Florida for RPSGTs or RST. Holding a current/active BRPT credential is the only requirement, and should include students or trainees who have completed an ASTEP or STAR designated introductory PSG program, and are working under the direction of a registered sleep technologist to gain the necessary clinical experience to take a BRPT or AASM exam.

I am interested in a career as a Sleep Technician. What training and education do I need?

The following link to the AAST website provides details on steps to becoming a registered sleep tech: https://www.aastweb.org/blog/how-to-become-registered-sleep-technologist-rst-rpsgt-cpsgt-sds.

Are there any Florida colleges with sleep tech training programs?

Currently, the only BRPT CAAHEP approved program in Florida is Santa Fe College in Gainesville.

Are CME credits available with your conferences?

Historically, we have been focused on providing affordable CSTE’s for Sleep Technologists and Respiratory Therapist’s involved in the field of sleep. However, as we receive more requests for CME‘s that may be a future consideration.

Can I complete the required clinical hours for the A-STEP program at any sleep lab?

You'll need to complete your A-STEP program first, before reaching out to any labs for the required hours. Once you've completed the program, some labs will hire you to provide mentoring and on the job training. The barrier will be, while there's not a state licensure law for RPSGT in Florida, some insurance programs, including Medicare require you hold the RPSGT credential to test a patient.

Conference Questions

I registered for the conference but did not receive a confirmation email.

When registering online, please be sure to complete the registration process by checking out via the website’s shopping cart. Once you have checked out through the shopping cart, you will receive an automatic email confirmation and receipt.

If you do not receive an email within 24 hours, please check any spam or junk email folders, as there is a good chance the email is there. The same is true if you used your employer (work) email address. Depending on your company’s IT policies, their firewall settings may prevent you from receiving our emails. Therefore, we encourage you to use a personal email address that allows you to administer your own spam and junk email settings.

When in doubt, simply add info@flsleeptech.org to your Safe Senders list, and ask your company’s IT Administrator to do the same.

When can I register for the next Conference?

Our annual conference is usually held in October or November. To be sure you receive a notification when registration opens, we recommend adding or updating your email address using the ‘DON’T MISS A CONFERENCE UPDATE’ email sign-up form at the bottom of this website.

How can I get a copy of my certificate?

If you need a copy of a past conference attendance certificate, please email us with your full name, email address, and date of attendance.

What are the technical requirements for joining the virtual conferences?

To ensure the best possible experience, we recommend the following:

  • Use a laptop or computer that has a wired internet connection (instead of WIFI), as a wired internet connection is more stable for streaming live content.

  • High-speed internet access, as this is best for streaming.
